The surrounding countryside is ideal for walking and cycling, and the lovely village of Lecchi in Chianti can also be reached on foot. Gaiole in Chianti is just ten minutes away by car and offers several restaurants, small shops, a supermarket and bike rental. The location is excellent for exploring renowned wineries, castles and medieval towns, with Siena, San Gimignano, Florence and Arezzo all within easy reach for day trips.

Casa del Vignaiolo is a comfortable holiday apartment on the first floor with a lawned garden overlooking the vineyards. It offers a lovely place to relax, enjoy meals together and admire the idyllic surroundings. Inside, the apartment is comfortably furnished, and a balcony provides the perfect spot for a morning coffee.

San Sano is a beautiful village and the fact that there is a restaurant/bar directly opposite was a real plus. The nearest small supermarket in Lecchi has most essentials available and is only a few kilometres away either by road or a pleasant 2.5 Km walk by gravel road/footpath. The views from the small balcony were great. The apartment is a good size and has pretty much everything one needs. The beds are very comfortable. The shower is excellent, providing plenty of flow at a good temperature. The swimming pool was a real bonus after a hot day on the bike. Just be warned that the cooker hood above the hob is very poorly designed and you will be guaranteed to bash your head on it often unless you are quite short!

We were staying in the area for the Eroica bike event - the atmosphere in Gaiole for the weekend was great - but maybe only if you are a keen cyclist and can cope with the crowds!
